What’s Happening in Whithorn?
The project aims to create a coherent creative campaign that reinterprets Whithorn’s walking and pilgrimage heritage for a modern audience, connecting past and present, and encouraging movement to and around Whithorn in more sustainable ways.
This includes:
- Reframing pilgrimage as a contemporary, accessible form of mindful travel
- Bringing existing media into renewed public circulation
- Highlighting Whithorn as both destination and journey
- Encouraging active travel through walking, wheeling, cycling and e-bike exploration
- Strengthening Whithorn’s regional identity as a hub for heritage-rich, sustainable travel
- Supporting behavioural change by offering meaningful alternatives to car-based journeys
The work should surface wider themes of ecology, coastline, archaeology, identity and landscape, grounding Whithorn’s heritage in the lived experience of movement.
Planned Creative Outputs
- Short film highlighting active travel through the Whithorn Pilgrimage
- A refreshed visual and narrative campaign grounded in the 13 Stages film archive
- Short-form video, creative reels or digital storytelling for social media
- Audio- or story-led content inviting visitors into the ritual, reflection and rhythm of walking
- Creative communication around new footpaths, e-bike trails and archaeological routes
- Content linking inland pilgrimage routes with Whithorn’s coastal heritage
- Narrative framing positioning Whithorn as a sustainable travel destination
- Visual or printed materials (maps, guides, markers) supporting slow tourism and walking culture
