Wild Goose

Since 2020, The Wild Goose Festival in Dumfries & Galloway has blossomed into a cherished annual event rooted in the awe-inspiring migrations of wild geese. Originally inspired by the remarkable journey of barnacle geese between Svalbard and the Solway estuary, the festival now celebrates all six magnificent goose species that grace this part of Scotland, along with the rich natural habitats they—and we—call home.
Every autumn, tens of thousands of wild geese—including Barnacle, Greylag, Brent, Canada, Pink-Footed, and Greenland White-Fronted Geese—embark on epic migrations, some travelling over 5,000 kilometres to join us. Their arrival makes Dumfries & Galloway one of the UK’s premier destinations to witness such a diverse and spectacular gathering.
The festival honours not only the inspirational journeys of these geese but also our deep connection with the natural world. Each year’s family-friendly programme engages our communities through creativity, education, and play, fostering meaningful relationships and encouraging people across generations to reconnect with the environment.
