Creative Intervention: Newton Stewart

What’s Happening in Newton Stewart?

This project aims to create an interactive sonic journey that reflects the unique place, connections, movement and environment of Newton Stewart, while encouraging residents to be key stakeholders in their town’s active travel dialogue.

Working with community groups to co-create a sonic journey in and around Newton Stewart, the project will connect a series of points through geolocated recordings, exploring concepts of place, connection and environment. In a series of practical workshops, participants will create narratives and respond to their surroundings through songwriting, composition, field recording and sound design. These workshops will culminate in the creation of a story trail around Newton Stewart.

Alongside the audio element, the project will explore video through documentation, giving participants the opportunity to learn about equipment, filming techniques and the processes involved in creating a short film.
