SUMMARY:Wild Goose Festival Foragers: Footsteps From Home with Wild Kat Foraging
DESCRIPTION:The sound and sights of barnacle geese\, whitefronts and more have always heralded home to me so I am delighted to be involved in this year’s wild goose festival and on home turf too!We will spend between an hour and a half urban foraging\, starting from the festival hub in Dumfries\, where we will look into the surprising variety of things to forage along the way. Plantlore\, foraging for food\, medicine\, craft\, navigation and more will be the subject of the day but we can also use it to reflect on the subject of migration\, how this landscape and its flora and fauna may have been used by the historical inhabitants of this very town and its surroundings whether settling down or moving on. \n\n\n\nOnce we have finished our walk and talk it will be back to the festival hub where there will be the unique opportunity to create recipe cards with the inspiring illustrator and all round lovely artist Emily Tough. \n\n\n\nAccessibility info to come. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMy name is Kat\, I run Wild Kat Foraging\, and I am an all year\, life-long forager\, historic reenactor and sufferer (happily) of chronic wanderlust\, lover of wild places with a tendency to be found roaming off-grid in forests and mountains. \n\n\n\n\nI have a background in bushcraft and survival skills\, ranger-work\, remote conservations and am in the association of foragers. The most important thing though is that I love this world of foraging that we can never stop exploring and am happy to share what I have learned and invite you to as well. \n\n\n\nThere is a whole world of foraging and plantlore to explore!

SUMMARY:A Moment of Mindfulness - Zine Workshop with Natalya Smith
DESCRIPTION:Join illustrator Natalya Smith in creating your own zine (mini comic book) telling a story of a memorable moment you’ve had while out in nature in Dumfries and Galloway. As mundane as enjoying the sound of rain falling through the leaves of towering trees above you\, or as thrilling as the time a fellow hiker helped retrieve your boot from the mud – any story that reminds you of the smaller beauties of life. Reflect on moments that connect you to the world around you and create a moment of mindfulness.  \n\n\n\nTogether we can explore ways to transfer your story onto the paper in a way that feels right for you. I don’t care how it looks in the end as long as it feels good to make it! \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI am an illustrator but in my practice I like to focus on the process of making art more so than the finished piece. Being a human person can be tough sometimes but I think there’s nothing more healing than expressing yourself with silly little drawings. If you’re enjoying yourself\, you’re doing it right! \n\n\n\n\nAccessibility InformationFully accessible for wheelchair users – access via ramp.

SUMMARY:Arrival Paper Geese with St Michael's Church
DESCRIPTION:Every autumn\, nearly 40\,000 barnacle geese arrive from their homeland of Norway. However\, during the summer of 1940\, we welcomed an additional 300 visitors from Norway—men who fled their country due to the Second World War in search of shelter and support. St. Michael’s Church played a significant role in this effort. To honour these 300 individuals\, we are creating a collective artwork: a visual representation in the form of paper-folded geese. We hope to display this artwork within the church or on its grounds. We invite you to join our workshops and make a paper goose. While our initial goal is to create 300 individual paper-folded geese\, we aim to honour all the Norwegians who sought refuge in Dumfries by the end of the war\, totalling 1\,100 men and women! Let’s get folding!

SUMMARY:The Salt Marshans
DESCRIPTION:The workshop will be focused on considering the ecosystem and animal life that inhabits the Solway marshland and will invite people to create a pre-existing life form to live in our in-hub marshland canvas\, like geese\, otters\, bugs  etc. Or create an entirely new one\, a creature that is built right for its soggy environment\, use your imagination and let it run wild. We will use pen and paper and include some Lino printing to complete the overall picture.

SUMMARY:In Another Realm Exhibition with The Travelling Gallery
DESCRIPTION:In Another Realm\, a group exhibition developed in collaboration with Sculpture Placement Group (SPG) and featuring the work of artists Laura Aldridge\, Nick Evans\, Louise Gibson\, Aimee Lax\, Aniara Omann & Daisy Richardson. \n\n\n\nIn Another Realm takes inspiration from science fiction’s engagement with the environment and the genre’s value as a tool for thinking critically about climate change. The selection of works on display in the exhibition suggest an imaginary world and landscape\, where traces of human existence can be found\, but where life is continuing without us. \n\n\n\nThroughout 2025\, Travelling Gallery has been touring exhibitions themed around The Environment & Climate Emergency. For In Another Realm we have worked with Sculpture Placement Group (SPG). SPG develop creative initiatives and tools for artists and the wider arts sector to address the urgent challenges posed by the Climate Emergency. The exhibition highlights their Loan Toolkit\, an initiative that loans artworks to community groups and organisations. The scheme provides an opportunity for artists to extend the life-cycle of artworks\, often languishing in long-term storage and it brings work to new audiences. \n\n\n\nThis exhibition foregrounds SPG’s vision to provide new display opportunities for existing artworks. It looks to playfully exploit the idea of creating an alternate form of existence for them. This world could be beyond the ordinary and could perhaps exist in parallel to or beyond our current physical world.Accessibility InformationWe continue to assure that our gallery meets the social model of disability. This includes pavement level access and/or a ramp for wheelchairs\, push chairs etc. We offer large print format exhibition interpretation. Subtitling and audio descriptions of films are available where appropriate or we can provide a transcript. \n\n\n\nThere is always a member of the Travelling Gallery team present to discuss any accessibility needs and to interpret in whatever way we can. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions regarding access to our gallery please send an email to travellinggallery@edinburgh.gov.uk
