Wild Goose
Festival
2024
Dumfries & Galloway’s annual Wild Goose Festival celebrated its fifth anniversary with its biggest programme yet. The festival ran from 18th to 27th October 2024, featuring a host of family-friendly events designed to entertain, educate, and excite audiences.
Key partners from across the region collaborated to create a packed programme that combined creativity with interactive education. The festival showcased the unique and diverse habitats of Dumfries & Galloway, shining a light on the wildlife that lived in and visited the region. Events included interactive storytelling, nature walks, performances, conversations, and creative workshops for the whole family.
Weaving art, culture and nature together, the ten-day festival formed part of the Scottish International Storytelling Festival 2024. It was supported by TRACS—Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland, Dumfries & Galloway Council, Annandale & Nithsdale Community Benefit Company, administered by Foundation Scotland, and the Dumfries & Galloway Museums & Heritage Network.
Wild Goose Festival Hub 2024

Visitors experienced the magic of the Wild Goose Festival Hub 2024 in mid-October. From the 16th to the 26th, the Loreburne Centre was transformed into a haven of creativity and discovery, open daily from 10 am to 4 pm. People celebrated the remarkable journey of the wild geese with a host of free, drop-in activities suitable for all ages. They immersed themselves in storytelling, unleashed their creativity with inspiring artists, and met passionate conservationists dedicated to protecting our natural treasures.
Highlights of the festival hub included puppet shows by Clyde Built Theatre, illustration workshops with Korey Patterson, Barnacle Goose monitoring with RSPB Mersehead, and storytelling sessions with Allison Galbraith. Participants engaged in hands-on science workshops, crafted their own goose puppets, and explored animal sounds in the Sonic Safari. Whether they were mapping the geese’s epic migration from Svalbard or celebrating migration through music and movement with Paragon, there was something for everyone. Families and friends created unforgettable memories and deepened their connection with nature.
